Mark D. Ein
Founder and CEO, Venturehouse Group
Chairman of the Board
Mark Ein is the founder and CEO of Venturehouse Group, an investment firm based in Washington, D.C. that creates, invests in, and acquires technology companies. Prior to forming Venturehouse, Mr. Ein was a Principal with The Carlyle Group, a private equity firm with offices around the world. From 1992 to 1999, Mr. Ein led many of Carlyle’s telecommunications investment activities. He currently serves on the board of directors of LCC International (NASDAQ:LCCI), as well as many private companies. Mr. Ein is a graduate of University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and received his MBA from Harvard Business School. A native of Washington, D.C., Mr. Ein is deeply committed to the region, supporting many charitable and community organizations.
Vice Chairman of the Board
Mark Walsh is the Chief Technology Advisor for the Democratic National Committee. In addition to serving on VSGi’s Board, Mr. Walsh serves on the Boards of several companies including VerticalNet (NASDAQ:VERT), which he co-founded and led as President and CEO. Previously, Mr. Walsh was a Senior Vice President and corporate officer at America Online (NYSE:AOL) where he founded and ran AOL Enterprise, the business-to-business division of AOL. Prior to AOL, Mr. Walsh was the President of Genie, the online service owned by General Electric. He also was the President of Information Kinetics, a venture-backed interactive information company focusing on the recruitment and classified advertising market. A graduate of Union College and Harvard Business School, Mr. Walsh is a member of the Board of Trustees at Union College and serves on the Boards of several non-profit institutions.
Brooke B. Coburn
Since 1996 Brooke Coburn has been a Managing Director for The Carlyle Group based in Washington D.C. Brooke is focused on early- and growth-stage investments, and small leveraged buyouts, in the U.S. telecommunications and technology sectors. Mr. Coburn has been actively involved with Carlyle’s investments in Bredband (B2), CityNet Telecom, Core Location, DigiPlex S.A., Genesis Cable, Matrics Technologies, Neptune Communications, NorthPoint Communications, Pacific Telecom Cable, Prime Communications, and WCI Cable. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Coburn was with Salomon Brothers, Inc. where he focused on M&A and capital raising assignments in the Media & Communications Group. Mr. Coburn received his B.A. from Princeton University with honors.
Donald K. Jones
As Chief Executive Officer for VSGi, Don Jones is responsible for the company’s overall activities and performance. Mr. Jones was on the team that structured the original formation of VSGi. Prior to joining VSGi, Mr. Jones was Managing Director for Venturehouse Group, based in Washington, D.C. There he worked closely with a number of Venturehouse Group technology portfolio companies. Before joining Venturehouse, Mr. Jones was Managing Director with Russell Reynolds Associates where he started the firm’s software practice, later was responsible for the United States high technology sector, and managed the firm’s Silicon Valley office in Menlo Park, California. Previously, Mr. Jones founded and later sold Potomac Software, a company that developed and sold PC-based real-time trading software for stock and derivative traders. For over seven years with the consulting firms Booz Allen & Hamilton and Strategic Planning Associates, Mr. Jones consulted on a wide variety of technology, operations, and corporate strategy projects for clients in the manufacturing, financial services, telecommunications, and high technology segments. Mr. Jones received his B.A. with honors from the University of Texas and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
